In response to concerns stemming from changes in the State Implementation Plan, the Transportation Planning and Programming Committee of the MPO recommended that a transit signal priority (TSP) pilot study be conducted for the Arborway corridor. This study evaluated the potential effectiveness of TSP, as well as of traffic system management and traffic signal coordination, in improving MBTA bus 39 travel times along the 2.2-mile Arborway corridor between Huntington Avenue and Forest Hill Station. The evaluation produced several recommendations for the MBTA and the City of Boston that should be considered for improving bus travel.
