Transportation Plan – Universe of Projects
OVERVIEW • VISIONS AND POLICIES • THE LAST 25 YEARS UNIVERSE OF PROJECTS • AIR QUALITY CONFORMITY • PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT One of the outcomes of the Transportation Plan is the development of a list of major capital-expansion projects and programs that are considered for implementation over the next 25 years. Called the universe of project and programs, it lists all possible projects and programs for the MPO region that could be included in the Transportation Plan. The MPO compiled a new universe of projects and programs for JOURNEY TO 2030 (the current regional transportation plan), building on public comments received to date and on the universe of projects and programs that was included in the 2004 Plan. The MPO added projects to the list that had been identified over the last three years through the development of the MBTA´s Program for Mass Transportation, the Mobility Management System (formerly called the Congestion Management System), comments on the 2004 Plan, and special studies. The projects and programs that are included in JOURNEY TO 2030´s universe of projects and programs were evaluated according to their consistency with the MPO´s principles and policies. As part of the process of developing the Universe of Projects and Programs, the MPO solicited input from the public in a variety of ways. At public-outreach events, MPO staff used a Compiled Corridor and Connection Needs map to help identify transportation needs in the region: members of the public were invited to write their transportation needs on the map. The MPO also presented a potential JOURNEY TO 2030 Universe of Projects map at public-outreach events. |
