Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization
Transportation Demand Management Program

Dear Interested Party:

The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) made available $250,000 this federal fiscal year (FFY) with the intention of funding multiple Transportation Demand Management (TDM) projects. This MPO program is funded with Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds and matching state/local funding.

Several proposals were submitted and approved in January 2008; $110,000 is still available for additional programs or projects that may be approved this year. Another opportunity is now available to apply for some or all of the remaining funding. Proposed projects must contribute to air quality improvements. Eligible projects for this program may include, but are not limited to:
  • Alternative Mode Support Strategies
    • Transit services
    • Non-motorized mode support
    • Park & Ride lot amenities

  • Work-site Based Strategies
    • Parking management
    • Transportation Management Associations
    • Facility amenities to benefit commuters
    • Telecommuting

  • Land Use Strategies – Planning for Alternative Mode transportation connected to sustainable land use strategies.

  • Programmatic and Policy Support Strategies
    • Trip reduction ordinances and programs, including parking pricing and transit subsidy requirements
Eligible applicants for the Transportation Demand Management Program include municipalities, Regional Transit Authorities and the Regional Planning Agency in the Boston Region MPO.

Applicants eligible for the MPO´s Suburban Mobility program should apply under that program for transit service activities.

If you think your community or organization may be interested in participating in this funding program, you should submit a letter of interest. To be eligible for funding during this second opportunity in FY 2008, letters must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008. All letters of interest should include a brief description of the proposed service and its intended market, and should be addressed to:

The MPO´s Transportation Planning and Programming Committee will review letters of interest received by the deadline and determine funding eligibility. All letters of interest will receive a response and eligible candidates will be asked to submit formal funding applications by Friday, May 30, 2008.

Thank you for your consideration of this program. If you have any questions, please contact one of us or Jonathan Belcher at the Boston Region MPO at jbelcher@ctps.org or 617-973-7253. We look forward to hearing from you.
