Each data layer used in the interactive map is
listed below with a link to a full metadata ("data about data") page. If the data was
not developed by the MPO, the metadata link points to the data owner's
or distributor's metadata page, and processing prior to inclusion in the
map is noted.
- Traffic count locations
(developed by the MPO)
- Major roads (maintained by the Massachusetts
Highway Department and distributed by MassGIS)
This layer was derived by extraction
from the "all roads" layer. The arcs were joined with attributes
in the road inventory and street name files (see the original
metadata page), and then most attributes were dropped and the
remaining ones renamed for intelligibility and compatibility with dBase
IV limitations. Items were added and computed for total number of
lanes and ADT per lane.
The second lines for divided highways were removed. Finally, the
lines were simplified to reduce the burden on the server.
- All roads (maintained by the Massachusetts
Highway Department and distributed by MassGIS)
The arcs were joined with attributes
in the road inventory and street name files (see the original
metadata page), and then most attributes were dropped and the
remaining ones renamed for intelligibility and compatibility with dBase
IV limitations. Items were added and computed for total number of
lanes.
- Massachusetts towns (developed and
distributed by MassGIS)
At small scales, the lines representing roads
were simplified to reduce the burden on the server.
- New England state outlines
(maintained by MassGIS)
The lines representing roads were simplified
to reduce the burden on the server.
- Lakes, ponds, and basins
(maintained by MassGIS)
